Church of the Transfiguration, Sneem
We warmly welcome all who come to the Church of The Transfiguration. Please join our worship in this place of goodwill and friendship. About UsStay in TouchAbout the Church of the Transfiguration
The Church of the Transfiguration in Sneem was built in 1810 at a cost of £553. We know little of the architect or his approach – although since it is totally different in plan and aspect to traditional church buildings, perhaps the ‘boat’ shape is intended to refer to Noah’s Arc, the fishing boat of the disciples, or the fact that Sneem is a small port. There is, of course, also the possibility that he had never designed a church before, and didn’t know about traditional church architecture. The salmon weathervane is a local landmark.

Project 2070
Since 1858, St Patrick’s Church Kenmare has been a place of worship, ministry and welcome to all, whoever they may be, from wherever they come. This has become increasingly important over the last few years, as the town has become a major international tourist attraction, situated not only on the Wild Atlantic Way, but also forming the ‘jewel’ in the ring of Kerry and a gateway to the ring of Beara.
The regular congregation itself is equally multinational, with current membership including no less than eight different birth nations – and in the tourist season, we share worship and fellowship with visitors from countries all over the world.
We now wish to further develop the use of our beautiful historic building as an asset for the wider community, to host concerts and presentations; and we have received planning permission to extend the church in order to provide suitably accessible toilet and entrance facilities.

By your grace we have the gift of the Scriptures. With the help your grace, may we listen deeply to what you want to say to each one of us. May we know your gifts of endurance, encouragement and hope, so that not only our lips but also our lives may be a song in praise of your mercy.

We celebrate the beginning of the story in Advent – but before we do, it is equally important to celebrate the final act of Coronation. The Gospel proclaims that Jesus is King.

In ways, the Christian Journey is like a race – a Marathon, not a sprint. The key is endurance, Jesus says. There will be mountains to climb, tears and heartache in the depths of your soul, and it will sometimes feel like it’s impossible to carry on. But the world will continue, and end only in God’s good time.

We live in comfort, in safety, in freedom, accepted in our community. I wonder how often we send a Thank you to the One who sets us free?

In community we can support each other in love and fellowship and build one another up. And plough on. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
Praying Together 28th September 2025
I hope and pray that I shall leave the world in a better place than I entered it, otherwise I shall have wasted the opportunity to live in freedom of body and soul as a disciple of Christ.
